DnA_Design and Architecture transforms Chinese quarries into cultural spaces Chinese studio DnA_Design and Architecture has transformed a series of former stone quarries in Zhejiang Province into cultural spaces, making sensitive insertions into their grand hand-carved interiors.

We recently completed the restoration of this historic structure behind a stage at one of the Sunset Studios production lots. The Golden Girls were among those that we’re told used it. I’m including the reference photo we had.

We ended up having to basically rebuild it in place, replacing a ton of termite and rot damaged wood, and adding foundations. Turns out it was built without footings, basically as a lean-to against the back of the stage! 😱

We had a great team, with Sunset Studios, CSI Construction, and IDG Engineering.
