𝐂𝐞𝐥𝐞𝐛𝐫𝐚𝐭𝐞 𝐉𝐮𝐧𝐞𝐭𝐞𝐞𝐧𝐭𝐡 𝐛𝐲 𝐡𝐨𝐧𝐨𝐫𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝐭𝐡𝐞 𝐩𝐚𝐬𝐭 𝐚𝐧𝐝 𝐢𝐧𝐯𝐞𝐬𝐭𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝐢𝐧 𝐭𝐡𝐞 𝐟𝐮𝐭𝐮𝐫𝐞. 📚🌱 𝐄𝐝𝐮𝐜𝐚𝐭𝐢𝐨𝐧, 𝐞𝐦𝐩𝐨𝐰𝐞𝐫𝐦𝐞𝐧𝐭, 𝐚𝐧𝐝 𝐞𝐪𝐮𝐢𝐭𝐲 𝐚𝐫𝐞 𝐭𝐡𝐞 𝐤𝐞𝐲𝐬 𝐭𝐨 𝐥𝐚𝐬𝐭𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝐜𝐡𝐚𝐧𝐠𝐞.
𝐉𝐮𝐧𝐞𝐭𝐞𝐞𝐧𝐭𝐡 marks the day—𝐉𝐮𝐧𝐞 𝟏𝟗, 𝟏𝟖𝟔𝟓—when the last enslaved African Americans in Galveston, Texas, learned of their freedom, over 𝐭𝐰𝐨 𝐲𝐞𝐚𝐫𝐬 𝐚𝐟𝐭𝐞𝐫 𝐭𝐡𝐞 𝐄𝐦𝐚𝐧𝐜𝐢𝐩𝐚𝐭𝐢𝐨𝐧 𝐏𝐫𝐨𝐜𝐥𝐚𝐦𝐚𝐭𝐢𝐨𝐧.
Today, 𝐨𝐧𝐥𝐲 𝟏𝟑% 𝐨𝐟 𝐁𝐥𝐚𝐜𝐤 𝐀𝐦𝐞𝐫𝐢𝐜𝐚𝐧𝐬 hold a bachelor’s degree or higher, compared to 21% of white Americans—𝐞𝐝𝐮𝐜𝐚𝐭𝐢𝐨𝐧 𝐞𝐪𝐮𝐢𝐭𝐲 𝐫𝐞𝐦𝐚𝐢𝐧𝐬 𝐚 𝐰𝐨𝐫𝐤 𝐢𝐧 𝐩𝐫𝐨𝐠𝐫𝐞𝐬𝐬.
𝐁𝐥𝐚𝐜𝐤-𝐨𝐰𝐧𝐞𝐝 𝐛𝐮𝐬𝐢𝐧𝐞𝐬𝐬𝐞𝐬 have grown by 𝐨𝐯𝐞𝐫 𝟑𝟎% in the past decade, yet still face significant barriers to funding and resources.
𝗪𝐞𝐚𝐥𝐭𝐡 𝐠𝐚𝐩𝐬 𝐩𝐞𝐫𝐬𝐢𝐬𝐭: The median wealth of Black families is 𝐨𝐧𝐞-𝐭𝐞𝐧𝐭𝐡 that of white families in the U.S.—𝐞𝐦𝐩𝐨𝐰𝐞𝐫𝐦𝐞𝐧𝐭 𝐚𝐧𝐝 𝐚𝐜𝐜𝐞𝐬𝐬 𝐚𝐫𝐞 𝐦𝐨𝐫𝐞 𝐢𝐦𝐩𝐨𝐫𝐭𝐚𝐧𝐭 𝐭𝐡𝐚𝐧 𝐞𝐯𝐞𝐫.
𝐒𝐨𝐜𝐢𝐚𝐥 𝐣𝐮𝐬𝐭𝐢𝐜𝐞 𝐦𝐨𝐯𝐞𝐦𝐞𝐧𝐭𝐬 have led to over 𝟑𝟎𝟎 𝐩𝐨𝐥𝐢𝐜𝐲 𝐜𝐡𝐚𝐧𝐠𝐞𝐬 𝐢n the past five years, showing the power of collective action and advocacy.
