Motorists traveling on Interstate 20 eastbound should expect significant delays. Traffic is currently backed up from the MM 590 area through Kilgore and past State Highway 135 due to ongoing road construction and multiple accidents.

Drivers are encouraged to avoid the area if possible and seek alternate routes. Please allow extra travel time, use caution, and be prepared for stop-and-go traffic conditions.

On June 10, 2026, at approximately 12:43 p.m., the Elderville-Lakeport Fire Department was dispatched to the north side of Lake Cherokee in reference to a reported missing person.

Units arrived on scene shortly after dispatch and immediately began searching the area. It was reported that the individual had last been seen on a boat dock approximately 30 to 45 minutes prior to the arrival of emergency personnel.

During a quick search of the area, responders located a deceased individual in the water.

The Gregg County Sheriff’s Office was requested to the scene and will be conducting the investigation. Any additional information regarding this incident will be released by the Sheriff’s Office as they deem appropriate.

At this time, the Elderville-Lakeport Fire Department would like to extend its sincere condolences to the family and loved ones affected by this tragic incident. No further information will be released by the department at this time.
