Today, on National Stop the Bleed Day, our team was proud to teach three Stop the Bleed classes at Texas State Technical College in Marshall, Texas.
Through hands-on training, participants learned lifesaving skills to control severe bleeding in an emergency before first responders arrive. When Everett English came to us with a severe infection, it led to the discovery of a stroke. After time in our ICU, he began intensive therapy in our inpatient rehab unit, where he struggled with basic things like eating, sitting up, and talking. But Everett proved to be a fighter, and our team was able to help him regain his strength and independence. This , we are grateful for journeys like Everett’s and our stroke care team, who helped him fight back.

In honor of Asian American, Native Hawaiian and Pacific Islander Heritage Month, we are celebrating saints like Saint Lorenzo Ruiz. Born in Manila to a Chinese father and Filipino mother, Lorenzo lived an ordinary life of faith as a husband and father. His life changed abruptly when he was accused of murder and sought refuge with Dominican missionaries traveling to Japan. Arriving amid persecution, Lorenzo remained with the missionaries, knowing the danger ahead. He was arrested in Nagasaki and endured severe torture, yet his faith strengthened in the face of suffering. Canonized in 1987 as the first Filipino saint, his life reflects courage, faith and unwavering trust in Christ.
