THINGS HAVE DEFINITELY IMPROVED IN RAPA NUI FROM A YEAR AGO!! :)
"The Chamber of Deputies voted 95-6 in favor of the proposal to amend the Chilean Constitution, which currently allows unrestricted movement and residence throughout the country. The reform recognizes Easter Island (known as Rapa Nui in the language of its indigenous people) to be a “special territory” and enables its local government to impose greater controls on the influx of visitors, especially those wishing to stay on the island for extended periods."
“This is very positive for Rapa Nui,” island Mayor Luz Zasso told The Santiago Times. “We have to understand that the island is an open-air museum for the whole world – not just for foreign tourists, not just for Chileans, not even just for the islanders – but for the whole world. The legislature understands that and that is why this reform is going ahead.”
