A Local Family Helping Local Students Succeed
When parents in Lodi, Stockton, Valley Springs and the surrounding communities look for academic help, they often discover they're not just walking into a tutoring center—they're joining a family that has spent decades helping students succeed.
Matt Winslow, his wife Maryann Winslow, and their daughter Grace Winslow own and operate Huntington Learning Center in Lodi and are expanding educational opportunities through a new "Super School" campus serving the San Joaquin Valley and Calaveras County areas.
Education has always been at the center of the Winslow family's life.
Long before they owned a tutoring center, Matt and Maryann homeschooled all three of their children from kindergarten through high school. All three earned bachelor's degrees while graduating with less than $10,000 in student loan debt, thanks in large part to strong academic performance and scholarship and grant opportunities.
"We've lived what many parents are trying to accomplish," says Matt. "We understand the challenges because we've walked through them ourselves."
Maryann brings a degree in Education from Biola University, while Matt earned a Bachelor of Science degree from California Polytechnic State University, San Luis Obispo. He also holds two master's degrees and has completed doctoral-level studies.
Matt's passion for helping struggling learners is deeply personal.
"I grew up with severe dyslexia," he explains. "I know what it's like to struggle in school and wonder if you'll ever catch up. That's one of the reasons helping students succeed means so much to me."
Today, the Winslow family helps students of nearly every age and ability.
Their Huntington Learning Center serves elementary, middle school, high school, and college-bound students through individualized programs in reading, writing, math, science, study skills, homework help, and SAT, ACT, and other test preparation. Students receive personalized instruction designed specifically for their learning needs rather than a one-size-fits-all curriculum. Huntington also works with homeschool families, students with learning disabilities, autism, ADHD, dyslexia, and those with IEPs or 504 plans.
Every student begins with a comprehensive academic evaluation that identifies strengths, learning gaps, and the best path forward. From there, an individualized learning plan is created and adjusted as the student progresses. Huntington's proven approach focuses on building skills, confidence, and motivation—not simply improving grades.
The results have been impressive nationwide.
Across Huntington Learning Centers, tutoring students average more than two grade levels of growth in reading and math in about three months of instruction, while test preparation students receive an average of more than $71,000 in scholarship offers. Huntington has been helping students succeed for nearly five decades through customized instruction and certified teachers.
Now the Winslow family is taking personalized education one step further.
Their new Super School offers an intentionally small learning environment with approximately one teacher for every six students. Instead of crowded classrooms where students can easily fall behind, children receive individualized instruction, close mentoring, and the flexibility to learn at their own pace.
"Our goal isn't simply to teach classes," Matt says. "Our goal is to help every child discover they can succeed."
The Super School combines many of the strengths families appreciate about homeschooling with professional instruction, individualized learning plans, accountability, social interaction, and a structured classroom environment.
Parents who have watched their children struggle in traditional classrooms often find renewed hope in a setting where students receive daily encouragement, academic coaching, and individualized attention.
The Winslow family believes education is about more than grades.
"It's about building confidence," says Maryann. "When students begin believing they can learn, everything changes."
That philosophy continues to guide every tutoring session, every classroom, and every conversation with families.
