Your lab report says "normal" if your Vitamin D is above 30 ng/mL. But here's what most people don't know: 30 is the bare minimum to avoid deficiency-related disease — not the level where your body actually thrives.

Vitamin D isn't just a bone vitamin. It's involved in almost every system in your body:

🦴 Bone health - helps absorb calcium and phosphorus, and works with parathyroid hormone to keep blood calcium in balance

🛡️ Immune function - supports your body's ability to fight off infection and helps regulate immune response

💪 Muscle strength - supports muscle function and helps reduce fall risk, especially as we age

❤️ Cardiovascular health - plays a role in blood pressure regulation and healthy calcium handling in blood vessels (instead of calcium ending up where it shouldn't)

🧠 Mood and brain function - vitamin D receptors are active in brain regions tied to mood regulation

🩸 Metabolic health - influences insulin secretion and sensitivity

Why we recommend higher than "normal"

At Stanly Wellness Center, we typically recommend patients maintain levels between 50-80 ng/mL — well above the standard lab cutoff of 30. For patients managing autoimmune conditions, we often aim even higher, in the 80-120 ng/mL range, since immune regulation appears to benefit from more robust vitamin D status.

"Normal" on a lab report simply means "not deficient." It doesn't mean optimal. That distinction matters for how you actually feel day to day.

Curious where your levels stand? We can test and help you build a plan to get there — proud to be voted 2026 Best Chiropractor in Stanly County.
