Are you interested in comic book culture and Illinois history? Join us at White Oak Library District on June 27th for a fascinating program exploring how deeply Illinois and comics are connected!

This engaging presentation explores the “symbiotic relationship” between Illinois and comics culture—looking at how politics, labor, law enforcement, education, architecture, and identity all show up in the stories we read. From Hollywood to Broadway, the Mafia to Congress, even a future King of England—Illinois has left its mark on storytelling in unexpected ways.

Dr. Stephen Harrick is a writer, historian, scholar, educator, and theatre artist. He has written about comics culture for Comics Beat, Straight Up Magazine, and The Arts STL.
