At midnight (3/1/2026), the NJ Civil Service Entry Level Exam Applications will be available. The application process has returned to a more “traditional” complete one application and be eligible for multiple openings within that job title. For example, the last few years, one application for each agency was required. Now, the application fee has been increased by Civil Service, but applications who pass the exam will be in a “pool” of applicants that will be drawn from as each department hires. Selection from the “pool of candidates” will be based on the residency preference for each agency.

The application deadline is 3/31/2026 and you can apply directly on the Civil Service Website at: https://info.csc.nj.gov/jobannouncements/DefaultJobAnnouncement/JobList

The exam is tentatively scheduled to be administered in the “Summer” of 2026 (typically July and early August).

2024-25 Sergeant Exam Results

We anticipate that the results from the 2024-25 Police Sergeant’s Exam that was administered on March 1, 2025, to be released in the very near future.

Civil Service is expected to release the results of the 2025 Police Entry Exam at midnight on December 3, 2025. The results will be available on the “Eligible Lists” page for on the Civil Service website at https://info.csc.nj.gov/EligibleLists/

2025 Police Sergeant’s Exam Results Update

Author’s note: I put this information together for our students and past students (many of whom are now supervisors) to share some important and factual information regarding the 2025 Police Sergeant Exam results being issued. All of this information is from various NJ CSC documents and the recent past administrations of the police promotional exams by the NJ CSC (as of November 19, 2025). The data does not include make-up examinations, appeals to be inserted on a list or in circumstances where the same jurisdiction may have two lists (i.e. one for Police Sergeant and one for bilingual Police Sergeant).



Obviously, anything can happen. However, the Police Sergeant Exam results are “typically” issued around SIX to NINE months after the exam is administered AND after all of the appeals are resolved. It is still within this timeframe and under the circumstances discussed below, it is reasonable that the results are going to be issued near the ladder part of the “typical” timeframe or perhaps just outside that timeframe.
