Wunderpus is a band built around emotion, dynamics, and raw performance. We don’t aim to recreate songs perfectly—we reinterpret them through our own sound, energy, and imperfections that make live music real and just flow with it. Matt, Dan & Blake carry me to where I feel weightless.

Our first time ever performing “Nutshell” by Alice in Chains, and we approached it with respect for the original while still making it ours. The song itself is one of the most emotionally heavy pieces from the grunge era, written by Layne Staley and released on the Jar of Flies EP in 1994. It’s known for its stripped-down acoustic feel, haunting lyrics, and honesty about isolation, pain, and inner struggle. That energy is exactly what we tried to tap into here.

In this version, the vocal is performed an octave higher than the original, giving it a different emotional tension and a more exposed, vulnerable edge. It’s me if I was signing it with him—it’s my interpretation. We also built a breakdown section in the middle that doesn’t exist in the original track, pushing it into a heavier, more cinematic space before bringing it back down. We seriously did not think about it. That’s how we roll….

We’re currently working on a full cover album of songs that naturally fit the Wunderpus sound—songs that already live in that emotional, heavy, and atmospheric space, but that we can reshape in our own way.

If you’re into Alice in Chains, grunge, alternative rock, or raw live performances that aren’t overproduced or polished to death, you’ll probably connect with what we’re doing here. Wolfman Studios

Subscribe, follow, and stay connected—this is just the beginning of what we’re building. You’ll hear more live sessions, more reinterpretations, and eventually full original material as well. We have that too.

And honestly, this video doesn’t even capture what this feels like live. Come see us in person.

Lady Evil: The Ronnie James Dio & Black Sabbath legacy tribute out of Little Rock, Arkansas.

In this photo, it’s me, Amie Bishop, stepping into the role of Ronnie James Dio, and Dan Schoultz on bass holding it down across eras—from Geezer Butler of Black Sabbath to Jimmy Bain and Rudy Sarzo from the Dio years.

It’s always about keeping this music alive the right way, with respect for what it is and where it came from.

Catch us at the next Lady Evil tribute. Save the date 😉
