I recently received a very powerful text from the wife of a man who attended Inner Strength Sessions.
She explained to me that during Inner Strength Sessions he learned skills and built enough confidence to set more boundaries! Then she went on to say she can tell a difference in his confidence during daily life.

What do we do when those conflict? Who do you talk with? Certainly not the bean counters who obey and couldn’t fight their way out of a wet paper bag! Aggression is a natural part of life! Anger is a gift!

CH 13: 80/20 of Emotional Intelligence (EQ) Neurology
Good EQ correlates with good mood, good relationships, and success.
Cognitive capacity to manage these: Emotions come from 7 core networks: fear, lust, play, care, rage, seeking, panic/grief.
IQ gets you hired. EQ gets you promoted.
How to supercharge EQ
Emotional intelligence is broken down into four categories.
1. Self awareness = Character
2. Self management = Taking responsibility
3. Social awareness The ability to recognize inter-personal struggles in other people and greater problems, like racism and misogyny.
4. Relationship management Interpersonal communication skills
For the individual components
Acknowledge the yield sign/engage the EQ gap.
To overwrite our auto response, when we finally become aware of that gap between thought and response and/or emotion, pause for a breath before you speak, act, react. Get clear on your your motives. Evaluate your response. Ask, “Why am I about to say this? Why am about to do this?” Be accountable for your flaws. Monitor and overwrite negative self talk.
Widen didn’t your emotional vocabulary. Don’t sleep on this one. If we can adequately describe our emotions with detail in precise language it is liberating. The limits of my language are the limits of my world.
For the social components
Active listening
Engaged presence with genuine curiosity.Without judgment and without attachment to the outcome. No daydreaming. No listening to answer. Patience is key. Summarize what they say aloud.
Empathy
The ability to share and understand the feelings of another is one of the fastest ways to develop emotional intelligence.
Mirror neurons help us train empathy. (Mirror neurons are responsible for us cringing when we watch another person fall or take a big hit)
Imagination
Imagine how it would feel if it were you. Consider this multiple angles. Compassion enhancing mediation (7 hours made large changes in the insula and the temporal parietal junction. The T-P jnx helps us develop empathy and see other perspectives).
To reach high achievement, creativity matters.
In 2002 researchers were tasked to find out what kids need to survive in the 21st-century. It wasn’t reading, writing and arithmetic. It was creativity, collaboration, critical thinking, cooperation.
IBM did an internal study looking at skills required to run a company. Most important quality is creativity.
Creative people seem to be far happier and this should make us rethink depression. How we approach depression.
