All too often in life, we take certain things for granted. Take, for instance, the ability to get up to manually open, close, or adjust your blinds or shades easily and without much thought. Some circumstances and hardships make what was once a small task impossible. Motorized blinds or motorized shades can be of great usefulness in these situations.

While many elderly people can get around independently, for some reaching or climbing step stools is just asking for trouble. And while they may be able to move about relatively well, sometimes it just takes a great deal of effort to get up from a sitting position. How to: choose a chandelier for over your dining room table.

Choosing the style of a chandelier to fit with the decor in your dining room can often be daunting enough, but adding in the concerns about sizing to the mix is important. Much like Goldilocks and the three bears, getting the size of the chandelier “just right” is what brings the room’s design to the next level. So how do you choose the proper size? It’s actually easier than you might think. The key is in choosing your dining table for the room before you choose anything else.

Why, you might ask? Well, it’s because the size of the table greatly impacts the size of your ideal future chandelier! Too small and it will look cheap and dinky above the table, and will make the room feel poorly lit. However, too large means it will visually overpower the room, and guests might bonk their head. So then what’s the perfect formula?

1. Purchase the dining room table
2. Measure the width of dining table
3. Subtract 12” from the width
4. That should be the width of the chandelier you buy

By taking the time to ensure you’ve gotten the proper measurements and size of chandelier, you will enjoy your lighting for years to come.
