Are you under 18, living in Southern Arizona, and dreaming of a future in aviation? This opportunity is for you.
The Capt Sax Foundation is proud to announce a dedicated scholarship opportunity for students across Southern Arizona. Thanks to a generous $20,000 grant from the Splash 3 Foundation, we are able to provide flight training funds to help young people begin their aviation journey.
We are deeply grateful to the Splash 3 Foundation for providing this grant in honor of Capt John J. Sax. For many students, the cost of flight training can feel overwhelming at the very beginning. From introductory lessons to private pilot certificate training, financial barriers often determine whether a dream moves forward or gets delayed.
This partnership allows us to continue John Saxโs legacy of mentorship and service by helping students take their first steps into aviation.
If you are under 18 and live in Southern Arizona, we want to hear your story. Whether you are already in ground school or simply passionate about aviation, this scholarship could help launch your journey. Visit the link in our bio, complete the application, and indicate your eligibility for the Southern Arizona program at the bottom of the form.
Students not selected for the Splash 3 grant award will automatically be considered for a Capt Sax Foundation scholarship through our general fund.
And to our community, we need your help. Share this post with local flight schools, educators, parents, and students across Southern Arizona. Every share helps us reach the next future aviation professional.
With all we do, we honor him. Thank you again to the Splash 3 Foundation for helping us expand access to aviation.

At the Capt Sax Foundation, all decisions related to donor funds are made exclusively by our Board of Directors.
This helps to ensure every aviation scholarship is awarded with intention, integrity, and a clear focus on impact. Our board is made up entirely of military and civilian pilots who serve on a volunteer basis, bringing real-world experience and deep understanding of the aviation journey.
Every dollar raised goes directly toward aviation scholarships and grants, with funds disbursed straight to flight schools, colleges, and approved aviation programs. Every contribution is directed to help recipients make real progress.
So how do we choose our scholars?
It goes far beyond grades or test scores.
We look for passion, the kind that keeps someone showing up even when the path gets difficult. We consider financial need, recognizing that training and education costs are often among the biggest barriers standing between someone and their goals. And we look for a commitment to mentorship, service, and community, individuals who are willing to lift others along the way.
That reflects the standard John lived by.
A mindset rooted in accountability, service, and the belief that excellence means caring deeply about the people and mission around you.
Every scholarship we award is an extension of that philosophy, supporting individuals who carry that same spirit into the aviation community.
Our application windows run year-round, with cutoffs on June 15th and December 15th.
Are you ready to take the next step in your aviation journey?

Big milestone. Bigger journey ahead.
Past Recipient Spotlight: Julianne Jones
Today weโre highlighting past Capt Sax Foundation scholarship recipient Julianne Jones and celebrating the progress she has made since receiving her scholarship.
Julianne is an aviation student at Utah State University with a goal of becoming a wildland firefighting aviator for the U.S. Forest Service. Originally from Oregon, she is driven by a deep connection to the forests where she grew up hiking and camping with her dad, and a desire to protect them from the air.
Since receiving her scholarship, Julianne has passed her private pilot checkride and earned her Private Pilot Certificate, a major milestone that reflects discipline, persistence, and the commitment it takes to continue forward in aviation.
Flight training demands consistency, focus, and resources. From early mornings to long study sessions, each step forward requires both effort and support. Achievements like this highlight the impact of aviation scholarships and grants, from scholarships for private pilot training to continued support through aviation school scholarships and flight training funds that help students progress toward their goals.
Julianneโs journey is a reminder that when opportunity meets effort, real progress happens.
Julianne, we are proud to celebrate your accomplishment and excited to see where your aviation journey takes you next.
