Be sure to keep not just windows, but your applications updated. At least for bug fixes and vulnerabilities. As for windows updates, it's fair to make them wait a few days, once in awhile they cause problems. If an update is for a Zero day vulnerability, don't wait.

Tip: Use different passwords for each service you use (email, web site, etc). Don't share passwords with anything. Otherwise if one account gets compromised, all accounts are compromised if they have the same, and maybe even if a similar password.
