By next week, you’re gonna think it’s August in the northeast

Severe storms are lining up day after day across the Plains and Midwest, with damaging winds, large hail, flash flooding and even a tornado risk building into the weekend and early next week. Stay alert — the threat shifts each day, but impacts could be significant in your area.

Rain is finally on the way to some of the hardest-hit drought areas across the Southeast—but it comes with a tradeoff.
This weekend’s storm will bring widespread soaking rain from parts of the Carolinas through Georgia and into Florida, where exceptional drought has been expanding. Most areas could see 1 to 2 inches of rain, with locally higher amounts possible.
That also means a risk for flash flooding in spots where the rain falls hardest.
While flooding is never good news, this rainfall is badly needed. The drought has already fueled wildfires, stressed crops, and strained water supplies in some communities.
This system will help—but it’s not enough to erase the drought. It will take months of steady rain to fully recover.

Severe storms are expected to ramp up across a large part of the central and eastern U.S. this week—and this is not a one-day event.
The biggest impacts are expected Tuesday and Wednesday, with storms stretching from Texas through the Midwest and into parts of the Northeast.
Damaging wind gusts, large hail, a few tornadoes, and localized flash flooding are all possible.
By Thursday, the threat shifts toward the East Coast, where strong winds and heavy downpours could lead to additional flooding concerns.
Even if your area misses storms early in the week, more rounds are likely.
Stay weather aware and keep checking back for updates.
