A brilliant 9-year-old fourth-grader, Montoia Murray, has earned first place in a local MLK Oratory Contest, impressing judges with a powerful speech inspired by Dr. Martin Luther King Jr.โ€™s dream.

The competition was highly competitive, with 165 students from 20 Houston Independent School District schools entering the contest. Over several rounds held in October and November, the field was narrowed down to just 12 finalists. Students were evaluated on delivery, stage presence, decorum, content interpretation, and memorization.

Montoia ultimately stood out for her confident presentation and meaningful interpretation of Dr. Kingโ€™s message, earning the top prize along with a $1,000 cash award.

Her achievement highlights not only her talent at a young age but also the impact of youth voices in continuing conversations about equality, justice, and hope.
