Eric Dodson - Independent Insurance Agent
During the pandemic, have you, the business owner, paid employees who were staying home and not working? If so, please be aware that the NCCI (the National Council on Compensation Insurance) has activated a new class code (0012) for that payroll. It will be important for you to use that class code during your worker's compensation audit, as the payroll in this situation will not be counted against your worker's compensation audit. If you paid employees to stay home and not work, please keep track of this information to use during your audit.
Spring and Summer are definitely "Contractor seasons". Contractors have many needs - commercial general liability, worker's compensation, commercial auto (for the truck and trailer), inland marine for their contractor's equipment and tools and even bonds. If you know a contractor who has concerns about his/her commercial insurance program, I would be happy to speak with them and answer their questions.
Insuring a business is a lot like a trip to a salad bar. There are lots of choices on coverages and it is important to understand the appetite of a given insurer and the exposures to risk (needs) of a given business. When I speak with a business owner, I review their operation and usually ask a lot of questions so that I can best understand the needs of the business, the owners and the employees. If you own a business, I would be happy to speak with you about your situation. I do this free of charge.
