A Great Fellow Citizen....

Airyn De Niro is 29, an aspiring model and voice actor who is studying to become a mental health counselor. In April 2025 she came out publicly as a transgender woman in a cover interview with Them magazine, timed around Trans Day of Visibility. She began hormone replacement therapy in November 2024.

Airyn is one of De Niro's children with his former partner Toukie Smith. Growing up as the child of one of the most famous actors alive, she said she was grateful her parents shielded her from the spotlight. "No parent is perfect, but I am grateful that both my parents agreed to keep me out of the limelight," she told Them. "They wanted me to have as much of a normal childhood as possible." She wanted to be known on her own terms.

The day after her interview ran, her father gave a written statement to People. It was 3 sentences long.

This June, Kentucky lit up for Pride from corner to corner of the Commonwealth. From Hazard in the east to Paducah in the west, from Glasgow in the south to Northern Kentucky just across the river, LGBTQ+ Kentuckians and their allies showed up in every region of this state. Lexington, Louisville, Richmond, Hopkinsville, Mt. Sterling, and more, no matter where you looked on the map, Pride was there.

It has been a beautiful reminder that q***r community doesn't belong to any one city or county. It belongs to all of Kentucky.

And we're not done yet! Stay tuned as we continue highlighting Pride festivals happening across the Commonwealth beyond June!
