It’s here.

Not too long ago, this was just a sketch, a conversation, and a hope.

Today, it’s finally standing in our backyard.

This rehab shed will allow Fortunate Ferals to house cats recovering from spay/neuter surgery, medical treatment, and other situations where a little extra care is needed before they can return home.

There’s still work to do before it’s ready for its first patients, but seeing it finally standing here is a huge milestone.

For many cats, this space will mean a safe, quiet place to recover before returning to the lives and colonies they call home.

Every cat that recovers inside these walls will be part of Glenda’s legacy.

She believed wholeheartedly in this mission, and this shed represents another step forward in the work she dedicated so much of her life to.

We’re incredibly grateful to everyone who donated toward this space, and to The Golisano Foundation - Bailey and Friends for believing in this project and helping make this milestone possible.

This shed truly reflects the support of an entire community.

We cannot wait to show you the transformation as we turn this empty space into a place of healing.

We’ve already hired a security guard, and he takes his job very seriously. 🐾

Hello, Facebook.

It’s shed day, so Kaylee is a little busy. Since she’s distracted, I figured I’d take over the page for a minute and introduce myself.

My name is Saint.

I live at the church where Fortunate Ferals is planning the Lehigh mobile unit on June 29, and from what I can tell, I’ve become somewhat of a local celebrity.

I’m the church cat.

The people here make sure I’m fed, they know me by name, and every night they bring me inside so I can sleep safely.

Not many community cats get that kind of love, and believe me, I know how lucky I am.

You’ll notice I have an ear tip, which means I’ve already been through TNR and have been neutered. Around here, that’s something worth celebrating because it means someone cared enough to give me a better future.

When Kaylee came to check out the location, I made sure she noticed me.

I walked right up and introduced myself. She says my story isn’t much different than a lot of other community cats, but for some reason she keeps calling me special.

Maybe it’s because I know a secret.

Where there’s one cat, there are usually more.

I’ve been hearing that there may be other cats living around the church grounds, and if that’s true, then my little introduction may end up helping a lot more than just me.

That’s kind of how this work goes.

One cat leads to another.
One conversation leads to a colony.
One stop turns into a project.
Before you know it, dozens of cats have been helped simply because someone took the time to notice.

So while Kaylee is busy building sheds and making plans, I wanted to make sure you knew my face.

Because sometimes the most important part of helping cats isn’t finding them.

𝗜𝘁’𝘀 𝗻𝗼𝘁𝗶𝗰𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝘁𝗵𝗲𝗺.

And thankfully, someone noticed me.

Ways to Help: Cat Food Donations

One thing we go through a lot of is cat food.

Of course, we need food for the injured and sick cats that come into our care, for cats recovering from treatment, and for the community cats we help through our TNR efforts.

But there’s another reason food donations are so important to us.

Many of the communities we serve are filled with compassionate people doing everything they can to care for the cats around them.

We regularly meet caretakers who are barely making ends meet for themselves, yet they continue sharing what little they have with the cats that depend on them. Unfortunately, when resources are limited, community cats don’t always receive the species-appropriate nutrition they need to stay healthy.

By providing cat food, we’re able to support both the cats and the people caring for them, helping ensure those cats have access to proper nutrition while easing some of the burden on the compassionate individuals looking out for them.

When someone attends one of our TNR mobile unit events, gets cats altered through one of our programs, or reaches out for help caring for community cats, we want to be able to send them home with food whenever possible.

We’ve seen firsthand how much of a difference this can make.

Through our partnership with Suncoast, we’ve been able to support caretakers who are working hard to improve the lives of cats in their neighborhoods. As we continue expanding our efforts in Lehigh Acres and surrounding communities, we’re hoping to do even more.

Food donations help us:

• Feed injured and sick cats in our care

• Support community cat colonies

• Provide food to caretakers in need

• Assist workshop and mobile unit participants

• Support TNR caretakers working to help cats in their own neighborhoods
