My most recommended dog training book, and why…

While many assume I’m simply poking fun at the parallels of struggling parents and struggling owners, nothing could be further from the truth.

The reason this is my most recommended “dog training” book—rather than recommending many of the actual high quality dog training books or trainers or courses—is because none of that stuff will be of any value to you until your mindset shifts.

I could give you every truly fantastic training resource, but without first changing your fundamental beliefs about who you and your dog are, and how that relationship dynamic should actually look, none of it will help.

As long as we’re still squeamish about sharing rules, structure, and accountability with our dogs, all the best training resources in the world will be useless.

I’ve said many times that the hardest part of dog training isn’t the mechanics, the timing, or learning any of the other necessary skills… it’s becoming crystal clear about how are unconscious emotions are dictating how we live with our dogs, then getting a clear handle on what needs to change, and eventually mastering them.

The dog training itself—beyond your extreme outliers—is simply not that complex or difficult. Anyone can do it. Anyone who’s ready to be a proper dog parent, or proper leader.

So if you’re struggling with your dog, take a week off from the constant perusing of internet content/advice/tutorials, and instead, order this simple, easy to read book. Then read it again.

It will likely cause many of you to feel defensive, attacked, possibly even angry. Cool. That means it’s hitting a critical nerve.

And just to be 100% transparent, this book and others like it were what helped me overcome my own dog behavior issues. It didn’t provide the techniques or tools—it provided the mindset that enabled me to search out, find, and comfortably implement the techniques and tools. My dogs weren’t a wreck because I was incapable of leading them—they were a wreck because I was emotionally opposed to leading them… and that my friends is where most of you are at.
