Check out my interview about lifestyle tips for breast cancer prevention. Both genetics and lifestyle factors play a role in our risk. There are a lot of factors we CAN’T control. We can’t control what we’ve been exposed to in our past. We can’t change our genetics, but we CAN control these factors:
-eat 25-35 g fiber/day. This is the best evidence we have for diet and breast cancer. A higher fiber diet is associated with a lower risk. Likely not just the fiber, but also the antioxidants, vitamins and minerals that come along with the high fiber foods. Estrogen fuels most types of breast cancers and fiber (especially cruciferous veggies, flax seeds, onions, garlic) can help detox excessive estrogen.
-reduce or eliminate alcohol
-minimum 75 min of exercise/week
-be mindful to reduce environmental toxins by choosing safer beauty care and household cleaning products, using high quality air and water filters, and reducing plastics around food.
