Pre-approval allows you to enter an aircraft transaction backed by a lender. It gives you a leg up in a competitive market and will enable you to close quickly.

Getting approved typically takes a month, so by the time you are approved, you could miss out on several aircraft if you are not approved before you begin shopping.

Once pre-approved, you typically have three months to close on the plane of your dreams.

The first thing to consider is lender limitations. Many lenders have a limit on the number of partners you can have sharing an aircraft (usually, the maximum is four). Each partner must qualify for and guarantee the loan as if they were the only one buying the aircraft. Any change in partners will require the loan to be refinanced. The lender will also not divide the loan payment equally between the partners; it is up to the partners to determine the split.

The most common path is for partners to create an LLC for the aircraft and loan and a new bank account to handle all the aircraft expenses.
