It’s not often you get asked to help commemorate such a special moment for people who hold such a special place in your heart.
A couple of years ago, I was asked to make a wedding cake for a wonderful couple once they finally set a date. A few months ago, they reached out and said, “It’s happening!” And today, June 11, 2026, was the day.
Of course, because this is Texas in June, it was approximately 4,000 degrees with 97% humidity. 🤦♀️ So I cranked the AC down to arctic tundra settings and got to work. After two days of baking, melting chocolate, whipping up the fluffiest buttercream imaginable, and making a raspberry preserve that was the perfect balance of sweet and tart, the cake was finally complete. Blood (in the cleanup process), sweat, tears, and maybe a little bit of my sanity were included at no extra charge.
Getting to the finish line, though? Whew. There were bubble blowouts that forced me to completely restart an entire tier. A cut that nearly took out my dominant hand. A wreck that pushed my delivery timeline to the absolute edge. One forgotten piping tip. And about seventeen other things that would have convinced a reasonable person to throw in the towel and just order cupcakes.
But somehow, through all the chaos, it came together.
The cake was delivered with exactly zero minutes to spare. After the cake was assembled on site, partially re-piped (completely miraculously btw) and my supplies were all loaded back up, I stood back and looked at it. In awe of what I had just accomplished.
Was it perfect? No.
Am I ridiculously proud of it? Absolutely.
Congratulations to the happy couple. Thank you for trusting me with such an important part of your day. May your marriage be filled with a lifetime of love, laughter, happiness, and significantly fewer unexpected disasters than this cake experienced. ❤️
