A local school board member should exemplify the character values that support the school district, not try and tear it down.
Who ever you vote for…. We ask that you consider their loyalty, duty, respect, and service to the organization you are asking them to lead.
Vote for candidates that believe in Leander ISD!
Nekosi for LISD
Sade Fashokun for Leander ISD, Place 5
Anna Smith, Leander ISD Board of Trustee - Place 4
Early voting starts this Monday Oct 21 and it’s around this time I get asked who I’d like to work with on the board. My views are my own, shaped by personal experiences, research, and my engagement with the candidates. A viable candidate for me is someone who loves our public school students and will advocate for them and their learning environment who works to build consensus and appreciates the challenging role of being one who serves in the capacity as one body - the school board.
Anna Smith has stood by my side at the Capitol, advocating tirelessly for public education funding. She doesn’t just show up to speak; she supports others, whether it’s our Superintendent or trustees across this state or students and teachers. I’ve witnessed her fortitude firsthand, staying all night to testify on the importance of public education and encouraging others to do the same. Beyond the Capitol, she cheered me on during my efforts to continuously improve the work of supporting students and outreach. Smith prioritizes showing up to serve on and contribute on board committees and targets continuous education to enhance her role as a trustee. Her commitment to student voices, empowered staff, and our district’s strategic plan makes it easy for me to cast my vote for Anna Smith.
Sade Fashokun’s journey as a school board trustee has been remarkable. I remember discussing her hopes and dreams when she first joined the board and watching her quickly absorb complex data. Sade’s desire in this area has been valuable and vital as we walk through our audit process. She has shown incredible determination, running for re-election back to back and demonstrating her character under pressure. I value her distinct perspective and commitment to seeking common ground. I will proudly cast my ballot for Sade Fashokun.
While I haven't served with Nekosi Nelson, I've seen his dedication at various events supporting our students. Our conversations have left a lasting impression, showcasing his thoughtful approach and insightful questions. I appreciate the intentionality behind his campaign for the open seat and his commitment to our community. I will be voting for Nekosi Nelson.
I also want to take a moment to acknowledge Cedar Park Chamber & Leander Chamber and Council of PTA for all the work they did in setting up excellent opportunities to learn more and organized public forums for the candidates. Their efforts have provided us with valuable opportunities to hear directly from those running and engage in meaningful discussions about our community’s future.
Ultimately, voters in our Leander ISD District of 200 sq miles have the opportunity to choose leaders who will prioritize our students. We need a board that shows up, does its homework, builds consensus, and focuses on the needs of every unique student in our .
Early voting starts Oct 21! It will be a long ballot so print yourself a copy now and research your candidates. Make a plan and put it on the calendar. I am casting my vote for:
Anna Smith, Sade Fashokun, and Nekosi Nelson.
I appreciate your thoughts, but I prefer to have conversations in person. If you’d like to discuss this further, let’s set up a time for coffee!
