Engage Douglas County recently recognized the Douglas County Sheriff's Office as part of the annual Engaged in Action Awards, which honor individuals and organizations committed to preventing su***de and supporting mental health.
The Sheriff’s Office received an organizational nomination, and Undersheriff Stacy Simmons and Public Information Officer George Diepenbrock were nominated individually. All nominations stemmed from a collaborative project to design and install signs in public parks and recreation areas that connect people experiencing crisis with the 988 Su***de & Crisis Lifeline.
This effort grew out of the first Su***de Fatality Review Board meeting in 2025, when the Sheriff’s Office and first responders identified a pattern of crisis calls in parks and recreation areas.
Congratulations to the Sheriff’s Office on this meaningful recognition. Great work. 🎉🙏❤
