Kansas Appleseed

States take widely different approaches to selecting their Supreme Court justices. Partisan elections show there are real and well-founded concerns that injecting politics into judicial races erodes public confidence in the court’s independence and impartiality, as evidenced by the Pennzoil v. Texaco trial of 1987.
No other state in the nation has voted to replace a merit-based system for selecting its Supreme Court Justices with a partisan, money-driven system of judicial campaigns. Kansans voted in 1957 to end political and financial corruption in their Supreme Courts by adopting a merit-based process with retention elections. Many other states have done the same.
🗳️ Make sure you are ready to vote. Check or update your voter registration at ksvotes.org by July 14. Every registered voter, including unaffiliated voters, can vote in this constitutional amendment election. Vote NO on or before August 4 to keep Kansas courts fair, impartial, and independent.

Last week, we celebrated the ceremonial signing of HB 2402 with Governor Laura Kelly, alongside school leaders, community partners, lawmakers, advocates, and Kansas children who represent the future this legislation aims to support.
HB 2402 encourages eligible Kansas schools to consider participating in the Community Eligibility Provision (CEP), which helps more students access healthy school meals at no cost to their families. This law demonstrates what can happen when individuals from various sectors and political parties come together to prioritize the needs of Kansas children!
Thank you to everyone who contributed to making this moment possible! We're proud to celebrate this milestone and look forward to continuing our efforts to ensure that every Kansas child has the nutrition needed to learn, grow, and thrive!
