Easily one of the most fun dances I've had the pleasure of shooting. Even though I enjoyed myself so much, I actually didn't take many photos, so you all get a same-day photo drop, something that never happens.
The full album is on my website, denisnicholsonphotography.com.
On my homepage, go to > galleries > social dance > contra > most recent album.
Any and all photos are for sale. If you wish to purchase a photo, scroll down to the bottom and click "contact me". Shoot me an email and we can work something out.

Easily one of my favorite photos of 2026 so far.
Our family outing at Tallgrass was more than what we bargained for. , but we didn't think that bison would walk by us and then be standing within 20 to 30 ft of us. When they wanted to get closer than that, We just left our stuff and walked away. We knew that they were telling us to back off (even though they were the ones that got close), And back off we did.
This was shot at 300 mm, with zero crop. Close enough to inspire all and fear at the same time.
On a family outting filming a script for (hopefully) and we happened upon some extras.

I don't like taking photos and just leaving them on my hard drive. So, new year's resolution is going through my neglected photos/videos and getting them edited.
These were taken last year in May on a family stroll.
Took some pictures of birds, little guy got to play in a stream, and much fun was had.

So, I've been waiting to make this post for a while, but the time has come!
Back in August of last year, the KC Options Magazine reached out to me regarding one of the photos I captured.
The KC Options Magazine comes out with a yearly edition of things to do around KC, from arts and culture, to sports and wellness, they know what is going on in KC.
In their "Let's Dance" section, they wanted to highlight several of the dance styles that KC happens to offer. One of those is Lindy Hop, run by the great (definitely check these guys out). I happened to take some pictures of their unforgettable rooftop dance at Hotel KC, and the magazine editor reached out and wanted to feature my images. So, we worked something out, and I can officially say that my work has officially been published.
Also, big shout-out to the one in the image, Ariel. This is easily one of my most favorite dance photos taken to date. You're an amazing dancer and are a joy to capture.
Not a bad way to start out 2026, I must say.

Me marching into 2026.
2025 has been wonderful. What are some of my personal highlights?
πΆπ» We welcomed another baby into our family.
π I got more into astrophotography, getting my first Aurora photo, my first milky way shot, my first star trail shot, and my first comet photo.
ποΈ I started doing video work and I already have some clients I am filming for.
2025 has been tough like any other year with its unique challenges, but you take the positive with the negative. I'm excited for what 2026 brings. I hope you all stay safe out tonight and I hope this next year is better than this one.

A bald eagle having an afternoon snack. These are wild animals that hunt and kill for their food, even if Disney would have you think otherwise.
Photos like these and more can be found on my website. Check the link in my bio.

An awesome shot of a bison taken a few weeks ago.
I'll be heading to Loess Bluffs tomorrow with my photography buddy. Possibly the last chance of getting some decent photos before Christmas and before the end of the new year. Let's hope that there are some good shots awaiting!

Another one from the Native Hoofed Animal Enclosure in Missouri.
I'm going to be going to Loess Bluffs again with my friend, so my last change of some decent bird photos before Christmas.
Wish me luck, and I let's hope there are some good shots to be had tomorrow.
