The day Covid-19 broke the stylist. I’ve been in the midst of this for 2 months and I’ve blessed to only have been affected by the virus and it’s social effects at a minimum but today was different. 😔

This is Ms. Doris, and we have been together for several years. We have been together through the death of her husband, high school graduations of 3 my children, the birth of her great grand twins, stories of local history, our opinions of countless novels and all the celebrity goings on. 😂 Today, Ms. Doris came for her appointment, she was excited and so was I but this appointment was not our usual visit.

Ms. Doris doesn’t hear well and I usually talk extra loud and if you know me that is loud! 🤣 But mostly she reads my lips to “hear me”. Today she made her 1st outing in 2 months, I could tell she was ready for our girl time. But today for the 1st time there was an awkward silence as I applied her color because she couldn’t read my lips. We communicated by me writing on a note pad and her talking as her color processed.

As she was calling for her son to pick her up, I sat her in this seat that I moved to entrance and snapped this pic before I went outside so she could read my lips. She instantly started talking about a novel she just read and wants my opinion on it. She had things she wanted to talked to me about but we couldn’t, Covid-19 stole that from us today.

As she was leaving, I told her that I loved her, I knew she could not hear it but I wanted to say it! I stepped back in the salon after she left and I cried. I didn’t cry when this situation denied me income or when able to work it restricted my income or even when the reopening came at a high financial cost. But today, when it robbed me and Ms. Doris of our bonding time, I cried and the stylist in me broke. 💔

We are so much more that “just stylist” and there are a lot of Ms. Doris’ out there. Love on them, send them a card, send the treats, send them coloring books and word puzzles. And Covid-19 you won’t rob me and Ms. Doris again of our girl time! I’m spending this weekend making a see through mask because Ms. Doris is more than income to me and I am more than “just a stylist” to her!
