Attention Haskell community!
We have received various questions from people about harvesting medicines in our garden restoration areas.
We want to let you know that these medicines are for the community. All we ask is that harvesting is done sustainably!
We encourage students, staff, and faculty to be in community with many various plant species, and to take what medicines, foods, and fibers you need! Here are the current garden areas ready for harvest:
Eric Allen Greenhouse
Haskell Cultural Center & Museum
Traffic Circle
Tommaney Library
Soon to come: Stidham Union, Horse Garden, & the Gazebo!

Thank you to everyone who came out yesterday evening to help us with weeding our gardens at the Eric Allen Greenhouse!
It was a bit warm, but we took it easy and made good progress in the east & southeast gardens removing various species and planting native species from local ecosystems. These gardens are looking wonderful!

Today, our very own Courtney King (Peoria) gave two amazing lectures about the Rematriation of Haskell lands for the Summer of Soccer: Friday Facts series!
Courtney shared the history of the Haskell lands and their significance to the evolution of Haskell Indian Nations University, while sharing past, present, and future stewardship and advocation projects for not only Haskell lands, but the entirety of the Wakarusa River Valley. At the end of the first lecture, a few Māori relatives honored Courtney with a beautiful song, expressing a deep appreciation for all the work she and past Haskell stewards have done for the land.
We really appreciate all of Courtney’s dedication and hard work to the environment, university, and Lawrence community! We hope to see more informative and meaningful lectures in the future.

As you may have heard, a 6-year burn plan has been approved for 143 acres of woodlands, wetlands, and prairies on campus!
Our team came together to craft a brochure with foundational information about the burns so people can be informed of our ongoing efforts to return fire to campus lands.
If you would like to learn more, you can now access this brochure on our website: www.haskellgreenhouse.org under the “What We Do” tab!
