Today is the first day of Disability Pride Month! Disability Pride Month is a month where people with disabilities can advocate and celebrate their disabilities. It also is a great time to bring awareness to the inaccessibility and ableism that is still present in the world. AbilityKU strives to make KU a more accessible and inclusive campus for students with disabilities.

The flag, as you can see here, is muted colors of black, red, yellow, white, blue, and green. The original flag was a zigzag and had the same colors but vibrant but was replaced by the muted single lined flag because when scrolling the zigzag caused visual triggers for some in the community. Ann Magill, a woman with cerebral palsy designed both flags. Black represents the ableism in the world. Red represents physical disabilities. Gold represents neurodiversity. White represents invisible disabilities and those who have not yet been diagnosed.
Blue represents emotional and psychiatric disabilities and green represents sensory disabilities.

ID: The disability pride flag is the background. The ability KU logo is in the bottom right corner. The top right corner reads “Disability Pride Month July 2024”
