🚨 The #1 thing to teach in youth basketball isn’t a play…

It’s SPACING.

Too many young players crowd the ball, stand in the same area, and make the game harder than it needs to be.

A simple spacing template can solve a lot of offensive problems:

âś… Fill both Slots
âś… Fill both Corners
✅ If you’re 4-Out 1-In, fill ONE Dunker Spot
✅ If you’re 5-Out, fill ONE 45°

That’s it.

When players understand where to stand, they create driving lanes, passing angles, and better decision-making opportunities.

Good spacing = more options + better play.

Before you teach actions, teach players how to space.

What’s the biggest spacing mistake you see from youth teams?

Youth coaches, I need your feedback.

I’m considering doing a FREE online clinic focused on what I believe are the 6 pillars of modern Drive & Space basketball for grades 3rd-8th.

Not a clinic about plays.

Not a clinic about memorizing offenses.

A clinic focused on teaching players how to actually play basketball.

Topics would include:

🏀 Spacing (4-Out 1-In & 5-Out)

🏀 Creating Gaps

🏀 Paint Touches

🏀 Decision Making

🏀 Finishing

🏀 Shooting

One thing I’ve noticed coaching youth players from 3rd - 8th grade is that many teams spend a lot of time learning plays, but not enough time learning how to create advantages.

The teams that are hardest to guard aren’t always the most talented.

They simply understand spacing, attack gaps, create paint touches, make good decisions, finish plays, and knock down shots.

I’d also cover how to teach these concepts when you only practice 2times per week and play weekend tournaments.

Would a clinic like this interest you?

If so, comment:

“INTERESTED”

And let me know what age group you coach and what offensive challenge you’re currently facing.

🚨 Dribble Drive Motion SPACING TEMPLATE 🚨

Whether you play 4-Out or 5-Out… spacing is non-negotiable.

Corners filled.
Slots filled.
Create driving gaps.
Force long closeouts.
Open up paint touches, kick-outs, and advantage basketball.

Good offense starts with proper spacing before the first move is even made.

Teach your players where to be so they can learn what to do.

🏀 Fill the corners
🏀 Fill the slots
🏀 Attack gaps
🏀 Play with decisions, not memorization

The best offenses don’t just run plays… they create space.
