Las Cruces Fire

The Las Cruces Fire Department is proud to recognize three of its members who have recently been accepted into prestigious doctoral programs, demonstrating their continued commitment to professional growth and excellence in service.

Lieutenant Christopher Johnson has been accepted into Oklahoma State University's Ph.D. in Business Administration program with an emphasis in Management.

Lieutenant Kyle Kozloski and Driver/Operator Kristin Wahlen have both been accepted into the Doctor of Nursing Practice (DNP) program at New Mexico State University.

Their acceptance into these rigorous programs is a testament to their dedication, perseverance, and commitment to lifelong learning. The knowledge and expertise they gain will not only strengthen their own careers but also enhance the service they provide to our department and the Las Cruces community.

Las Cruces firefighters extinguished a mobile home fire on Karen Drive Sunday evening.

Just after 9:30 p.m. Sunday, July 12, firefighters responded to a structure fire on the 300 block Karen Dr. The first arriving crew encountered active fire and smoke coming from the structure.

The first arriving crew performed a thorough search of the structure with no victims. The mobile home appeared to be unoccupied. The fire was brought under control within 15 minutes of arrival. There was no extension to surrounding structures.

No injuries were reported.

The cause of the fire is under investigation.

The Las Cruces Fire Department technical rescue team responded alongside multiple agencies to assist in a mountain rescue of an injured hiker at Aguirre Springs Sunday morning. The call came in about 10 a.m Sunday, July 12.

Crews responded to the Aguirre Springs trail and learned the hiker had ascended approximately 1,000 ft off the trail into a gully and received an injury preventing the hiker from being able to descend.

Multiple Search and Rescue parties worked in conjunction to assist the hiker while providing medical care. Due to terrain, the total rescue time on the mountain was approximately 12 hours and 20 minutes.

Three firefighters were reported injured from this rescue.

Las Cruces Firefighters extinguished a fire on Montana Avenue Saturday Afternoon.

Just after 1 p.m., Saturday, July 11, firefighters responded to a report of a commercial structure fire on the 1200 block of Montana Ave. The first arriving unit found a large exterior fire in a storage yard that was impinging on a nearby commercial building. The fire was brought under control within 15 minutes. The structure was searched and was clear of any possible occupants. One firefighter was injured and later transported to the hospital.

The cause of fire is under investigation.
