📢 New Florida laws take effect today, July 1. While dozens of new laws are now in effect, we've highlighted three that may be especially important for homeowners and drivers.
🏡 Home Repair Rules – Some residential repairs under $7,500 may no longer require a building permit. However, structural, electrical, plumbing, HVAC, gas work, and work in flood hazard areas still require permits. Even when a permit isn't required, it's a smart idea to keep photos, receipts, and contractor information for your records.
🌀 Hurricane & Flood Protection – Florida has made it easier in many cases to install temporary hurricane and flood protection barriers before storms. With hurricane season underway, now is a great time to review your home's preparedness.
🚗 Driver License Law – Driving without a valid license now counts toward Habitual Traffic Offender status, which can result in more serious consequences for repeat violations.
At Vermost Insurance Agency, we believe an informed homeowner and driver is a better protected one.

Think you're safe because you're not in a flood zone?
That may not tell the whole story.
Flood maps can change over time, and parts of Florida—including areas in Pinellas and Pasco counties—are seeing increased attention around flood risk and map updates.
What does that mean for homeowners?
✔️ Flood insurance requirements could change
✔️ Insurance costs may be impacted
✔️ Your property's flood risk could be reevaluated
The reality is that flooding doesn't only happen during major hurricanes or in high-risk flood zones. Heavy rainfall, drainage issues, and changing development patterns can all contribute to flood damage.
In our latest video, we break down what changing flood maps could mean for Florida homeowners and why understanding your flood exposure matters.
Watch the video below, and if you have questions about your flood zone or flood insurance options, we're here to help.
