But the excitement doesn't stop there—she was also announced as a State of Texas Finalist for Middle School Assistant Principal of the Year!

Our George Washington Middle School students had an absolutely incredible week at the GEAR UP / TAMIU TSI Summer Camp! ☀️🎓

Our future leaders spent the week sharpening their writing skills to ace the upcoming TSI exam, all while getting a true taste of college life. From campus tours to exciting group activities, they got a firsthand look at what their bright futures hold.

Here are a few highlights from the week:
🤝 New Connections: Made new friends and built amazing team memories.
📚 Special Guest: Had the honor of meeting Elsa Martinez Hinojosa, the inspiring author of Las Cabañuelas!
🎁 Epic Swag: Every student went home with some fantastic goodies, including an Ophaya Smart Pen Writing Set!

Overall, it was a wonderful, enriching experience. Our students represented GWMS with excellence, pride, and ultimate Bobcat spirit! 🎒✨

Want to celebrate your reading achievements with a special celebration when we get back? Here is everything you need to do to join the fun:

Your Summer Reading Checklist:
📖 Pick a Book: Read a book from the UISD’s Middle School Reading List.

📝 Complete Activities: Complete three of the reading challenge activities.

📧 Submit Your Work: Email your completed activities to [email protected] by July 31, 2026.

Important Details:
Google Form Activities: The digital activities will be available from June 1, 2026, to July 31, 2026.

The epic Teacher vs. Student rematch basketball game at George Washington Middle School is officially in the books, and what a game it was!

The tenured teachers and staff put up an incredible fight, but our unstoppable Bobcats dug deep, played hard, and came out with the VICTORY! 🏆🎉
