Visiting us at the Market is the perfect way to celebrate Earth Day year-round! On average, food travels over 1,000 miles from the point of production to retail stores. In contrast, all of our vendors are less than 60 miles away from us. Growers selling at markets minimize the amount of waste and pollution they create. Many use certified organic or chemical-free practices, reducing the amount of synthetic pesticides and chemicals that pollute our soil and water. A growing number are also adopting other low-impact practices, such as on-site composting, that help mitigate climate change and other environmental issues. By supporting our vendors you're also supporting the environment and promoting the sustainability that goes hand in hand with their livelihoods. In the spirit of Earth Day, consider walking to the Market this Wednesday, it's supposed to be 70 and sunny! 😎

In honor of Earth Day, from 4 - 5PM The MidMichigan Environmental Action Council (MidMEAC) will hold a watershed education workshop outside. Then, at 5:30PM join Eastside Compost in the conference room for a workshop about composting in the neighborhood. Divert your food waste from the landfill and help build high-quality soil for local Lansing gardeners!
