Dr Rebecca Lee Crumpler - Born Rebecca Davis, on February 8, 1831 in Christiana, Delaware. Dr. Crumpler was later raised by her aunt in Pennsylvania. She would attend West Newton English and Classical School in Massachusetts. In 1852, Dr. Crumpler would move to Charleston, where she would spend the next 8 years working as a nurse. In 1860, Dr. Crumpler was accepted into the New England Female Medical College.
On March 1, 1864, the board of trustees named Rebecca Lee Crumpler a Doctor of Medicine, making her the first African-American woman in the United States to earn the degree, and the only African-American woman to graduate from New England Female Medical College. The New England Female Medical College would later close its doors permanently in 1873, never graduating another African-American woman.
Dr. Rebecca Lee Crumpler would live on to be recognized for her work with people of color in Boston, Massachusetts and Richmond, Virginia, with her specialty being with women and children. In 1883, she published A Book of Medical Discourses from the notes she kept over the course of her medical career.
Dr. Rebecca Lee Crumpler died March 9, 1895 in Fairview, Massachusetts.

DR. BENJAMIN S. CARSON - Born in Detroit, MI, graduated from Yale University and University of Michigan Medical School. He would go on to become the Chief of Pediatric Neurosurgery at Johns Hopkins Hospital, at age 33, the youngest in the United States.
Dr. Carson was the Director of Pediatric Neurosurgery at Johns Hopkins Hospital from 1984 until his retirement in 2013. As a pioneer in neurosurgery, Carson's achievements include performing the only successful separation of conjoined twins joined at the back of the head, and pioneering the first successful neurosurgical procedure on a fetus inside the womb.
On March 2, 2017, Dr. Benjamin S. Carson was confirmed by the United States Senate as the Secretary of Housing and Urban Development.
