The House’s HELP-UP plan delivers meaningful tax relief by eliminating our state property tax, ending the “pop-up tax” that can trigger sudden increases after a home sale, and repealing the real estate transfer tax, saving the average homeowner about $900 annually!
This plan also requires a mandatory $1 billion statewide rate rollback. Utility companies stand to benefit significantly from the elimination of personal property taxes under this plan, and we are making sure those savings are passed directly on to ratepayers in the form of measurable reductions in monthly bills. Together, this plan saves the average homeowner roughly $1,400 per year.
The HELP UP plan represents a significant step toward making Michigan more affordable and providing real, lasting relief for hardworking families.

Today, we remember the courage and sacrifice of those who stormed the beaches of Normandy on D‑Day, June 6, 1944. Their bravery marked a turning point in World War II and helped secure the freedoms we enjoy today.
May we always honor their legacy and remain forever grateful.
I am proud to share that my bill, HB 5813, officially passed the House this week!
This legislation requires the Michigan Department of Health and Human Services to publicly report Medicaid error rates and improper payments annually, strengthening oversight and helping identify areas for improvement.
Michigan spends billions each year through its Medicaid program, and it is important that taxpayers have transparency into how accurately those funds are being administered. HB 5813 is a commonsense step toward greater accountability and responsible stewardship of our taxpayer resources.

This week, I had the pleasure of welcoming Cooper, Kailey, Trinity, Olivia, and Alise from Cheryl Stockwell Academy to the Michigan State Capitol!
These outstanding students were selected to participate in a wreath-laying ceremony at the Tomb of the Unknown Soldier at Arlington National Cemetery as part of their class visit to Washington, D.C. They earned this honor through their thoughtful, well-written letters and their clear understanding of the importance of honoring those who have served our nation.
It was a privilege to recognize their achievement and commend them for representing their school and our community with such distinction.

On Tuesday, I had the distinct honor of recognizing John Turnbull on the House floor during session.
In 2005, John answered the call to serve by enlisting in the United States Army, completing multiple deployments across the Middle East, including Afghanistan, Iraq, and Syria. Throughout his service, he demonstrated exceptional leadership and commitment, helping to restore stability and hope in communities impacted by conflict, supporting efforts that enabled thousands of girls to return to school, rebuilding critical medical facilities, and restoring essential infrastructure to hundreds of thousands of individuals.
In 2019, while continuing to serve and protect others, John was gravely wounded. Despite enduring more than 20 surgeries and a prolonged recovery, his resilience and perseverance reflect the highest standard of courage and determination.
John Turnbull’s service, sacrifice, and unwavering dedication embody the finest traditions of the United States Army and our nation. It was a privilege to recognize his extraordinary contributions and honor his service.
I am proud to announce that my HB 5650 has officially passed the House!
HB 5650 establishes a straightforward and commonsense requirement: whenever the Attorney General’s Office spends more than $250,000 on a single case, it must report those expenditures to the Legislature. That report would include detailed line item costs, an explanation of why the case is being pursued, and a clear justification for the use of public funds. These safeguards would apply to the current and all future Attorneys General, regardless of party affiliation.
Michigan taxpayers deserve to know how their money is being spent, and HB 5650 provides a responsible framework to make that oversight possible.

On Tuesday, the House Oversight Committee discussed concerns surrounding how public funds are administered and accounted for within Rx Kids.
During the hearing, we raised serious concerns about how much of the allocated state funding is actually reaching intended recipients and supporting the core goals of the program. Additional concerns focused on clear gaps in oversight, including instances where an expecting mother may receive the $1,500 stipend and then terminate the pregnancy while still retaining those taxpayer funds. We also raised concerns about the ability to ensure that these dollars are being used for their intended purpose, rather than on luxury items or purchases such as alcohol and drugs. Simply relying on trust is not enough when there have been repeated concerns and allegations of fraud and misuse associated with this program.
This hearing made it clear that stronger safeguards are needed. We must have clear guidelines, real accountability, and strong verification processes in place to ensure taxpayer dollars are protected and that this program is truly serving the families it was created to help.
