One reason Poa annua can be such a fierce competitor in creeping bentgrass is its ability to remain active and establish during cool periods of the year, allowing it to gain a foothold before bentgrass reaches peak growth. Maintaining a dense, vigorous bentgrass stand through sound fertility and cultural practices remains one of the best defenses against Poa encroachment (Kome, 1996; Green et al., 2019).
