Maria Ruggirello for 35th District Court Judge
06/14/2024
They say nothing worth having comes easy, and they were right. With both immense pride and admittedly, some sadness, my 35th district court campaign comes to an end.
Politics, unfortunately, is as dirty of a game as everyone says—even at the local level. Those who are threatened by their opponents resort to gamesmanship in disruption of democracy. While elections are meant for the people to decide, self-interested, seasoned campaigners will do whatever it takes to eliminate their competition. I now know this first-hand.
So, now what? I am thrilled to return to the Michigan Supreme Court to finish up the term with the Chief Justice. Back to the place that inspired me to run for judge and confirmed my love for the judiciary.
Thank you all from the bottom of my heart for your support along the way. I will never have the words to express my gratitude to those who joined my team, hosted a fundraiser, gave an endorsement or donation, knocked doors, shared my story, promoted our message, and stood by my side. I am so incredibly proud of what we accomplished together and proud to have ran this campaign with the highest morals, integrity, positivity, and enthusiasm.
This was my first race, but certainly not my last. And when the time is right for me to hit the campaign trail again, I will be better than ever before.

Just a few of many great photos from my incredible kickoff fundraiser event! I am overwhelmed by the support I’ve received from family, friends, judges, and politicians in my 35th district court race. A very special thanks to those pictured here for coming to support me: Chief Justice Elizabeth Clement, Justice Brian Zahra, Judge Jim Plakas, Judge Ron Lowe, and Judge Karen Khalil.

Groundbreaking ceremony for Ivywood Classical Academy earlier this week. The best part was seeing how excited the students are for their new building, and their love for this school.

Some highlights from the Canton Relay for Life. We met Tino the police dog, caught a live performance of my favorite song from Hamilton, and watched the Canton Police vs. Canton Fire Dept in a tug of war! (Spoiler alert: the firemen won). Great time and an even greater cause!

Back in Lansing today for the 24th Annual MATCP Conference! The MATCP serves as a voice for treatment courts in the state and federal legislature; and works with the public and private sectors on educating and advancing treatment courts and other criminal justice and substance use/healthcare reforms. Michigan’s treatment court program is a critical tool for administering justice and reducing recidivism rates in our district courts. I look forward to expanding this phenomenal program at the 35th District Court!
