It is an honor to recognize Dr. Leland Harper, Associate Professor of Race, Justice, and Equity Studies at Siena Heights University, as the recipient of the ACPA–Michigan Equity and Inclusion Award for 2026. Dr. Harper’s unwavering commitment, creativity, and innovative leadership have profoundly impacted students and colleagues alike, both locally and nationally. Through his development of the JEDI program and certificate, impactful grant work, and transformative teaching, Dr. Harper equips students to challenge systems of oppression and embrace inclusive leadership. His scholarly contributions, statewide initiatives, and campus service have shaped critical conversations around equity, inspired action, and fostered a culture of inclusion. Dr. Harper’s dedication to advancing justice, equity, diversity, and inclusion truly embodies the spirit of this award, and his work continues to leave a lasting legacy within higher education. Leland also serves on the ACPA-MI board as the current Social Justice and Inclusion Coordinator and is currently planning this year’s JEDI (Justice, Equity, Diversity, and Inclusion) Conference at Siena Heights University in May.
