Female frogs, especially European common frogs, do fake death (tonic immobility or thanatosis) to avoid unwanted, persistent male mating attempts, often going completely limp and motionless to signal they're not viable mates, especially when overwhelmed in breeding frenzies. This tactic, combined with kicking, rolling, and vocalizing, helps them escape aggressive males and prevent drowning or injury in "mating balls," showcasing their complex strategies to control reproduction.
