Mostly from fears of further expansion of military actions in the Mideast, precious metals prices rose today. At their peaks, gold made it up to $4,168.00, silver rose to $60.88, platinum climbed to $1,663, and palladium was as high as $1.327.

Silver: $59.68/$59.88
Platinum: $1,639.00/$1,649.00
Palladium: $1,286.00/$1,306.00

US Treasury interest rate yields today for 3-month and 10-year debt is tied at its 2026 high. The 30-year interest rate yield at 5.15% is close to the 2026 high of 5.18%. Be careful out there.

Watch out for the rising interest rates on government bonds now being paid by all seven members of the Group of 7.

United Kingdom 10-year bond interest rate yield on May 19 was its highest since September 2007. Japan's current 10-year yield is the highest since January 1997. Germany and France 10-year yield is close to the highest since April 2007 and July 2007, respectively.

US government's interest rate yield on 10-year Treasury debt is close to the highest since April 2024. Italy's 10-year yield is close to its highest since January 2024.

Only Canada isn't close to long-term highs. Recent yield of 3.42% is close to the May high of 3.5415%, which was close to the most recent later high yield in late 2024.

What this means is that the US dollar, British pound, Japanese yen, euro, and Canadian dollar are all destined to lose purchasing power in the near future.

The Bank of Japan is now the largest official foreign holder of US Treasury debt. In the month of May 2026, it reduced its US Treasury holdings by almost 5% to help prop up the yen currency value.
