State Representative Natalie Price
On May 31st, the contract between UAW local 2093 and American Axle Manufacturing will expire. Workers at American Axle’s Three Rivers plant have been bargaining for almost 2 months with no results.
They are asking for fair wages, better healthcare and stronger retirement benefits. Today, the wages of workers at the three Rivers plant have still not recovered from the 2008 crash. Currently, their hourly rate caps out at $22 an hour when prior to 2008 it capped out at $29 an hour. Adjusting for inflation they make less than half of what they did 18 years ago.
Over the past 10 years American axle has made $8.4 billion in profit. They have paid their CEO $111 million and doled out nearly $231 million in compensation to their top five executives.
The UAW members working in the Three Rivers plant are struggling to afford basic needs with some even being forced to sleep in their cars.
I’m standing in solidarity with UAW local 2093 as they fight for the ability to be able to afford to live in our state. Without these workers, there is no American Axle. It’s far past time that they are treated with the respect that they deserve.
This Republican plan would devastate our public schools. We can provide tax relief without disinvesting in our kids.
