The Student-Led, Faculty-Guided project, Assessing Bus Stop Shade Coverage and Potential for Improvements to Support Climate Adaptation: Grand Rapids, has been honored with an Outstanding Graduate Student Project Award as part of the 2026 Planning Excellence Awards presented by the Michigan Association of Planning.

Led by MSU Urban Planning students under the guidance of Dr. Jesus J. Lara, the project was developed in collaboration with the City of Grand Rapids Office of Sustainability and supported by the REI initiative.
