Reminder to all: Flood insurance is not a part of a Michigan home insurance policy. If you live in a flood zone, when you purchase your home, you would be required to purchase flood insurance through the NFIP (National Flood Insurance Program). If you DO NOT live in a flood zone, if you want to have flood insurance coverage, you would need to purchase it through the NFIP. (Always a separate policy from your home insurance policy.)

A flood is water that touched the ground, then enters the home.

If your drains backup, or a pipe bursts, or your fridge malfunctions, etc, there can be coverage offered on your home insurance for those losses.
