America has an empathy epidemic!

A severe lack of understanding of another individual’s happenstances is baffling.

From the inside it’s all unraveling
and for those with insights of the inside it’s astonishing.

To watch the bickering become a ridiculously televised tragedy.

No matter what I say someone will be mad at me.

Friends and family no longer acting like civil tribes of humanity.

Both sides fighting to be right because they disapprove of how each other lives their life.

Unable to recognize they have more in common than could ever divide.

Not focusing their attention on those to truly despise.
the narcissists we vote for like some consolation prize.

The lesser of two evils but the same devil organized.

The puppet masters pulling the strings from on high
keep the animals at each other’s throats while their bank accounts multiply.

We keep sorrow in our hearts but at least we’re able to buy, that brand new luxury from one of those billionaire guys.

Then go on the internet and condemn the other side
for our own frustrations of some new slight and sit back thinking our actions are justified because “I’m the keeper of wrong and right.”

When will we open our eyes?

Open our hearts to those in the same position as… I?

Just trying to live a decent life and enjoy the fraction of time we get to survive.

Enough of this me, myself, and I.

Put yourself in another’s position and think of what they’ve seen every day with their eyes before expecting them to hold the same values you’ve decided to live by.

Empathy doesn’t cost a damn thing, but for some reason it seems too expensive for our time.
