During Pride Month, we're reminded that every person deserves dignity and respect. That's why the comments made by UFC fighter Josh Hokit about Michelle Obama were so offensive.

What's just as troubling is how few voices on the political right have spoken up to condemn this kind of ignorance. Lloyd Smucker has said nothing to denounce these comments so does he agree with this behavior? Silence sends a message.

After years of Donald Trump normalizing insults, falsehoods, and personal attacks, it's no surprise that some people feel comfortable making these kinds of comments in public.

We can disagree on politics without sacrificing basic decency. America deserves better.

Trump claims the war is over, but let's be honest about the results.

We've spent billions of taxpayer dollars, lost American lives, driven up energy costs, rattled global markets, and depleted military resources, only to end up negotiating with Iran again. And remember, Lloyd Smucker supported this 100%, voting against the War Powers Resolution to restrict the President's actions.

Trump spent years attacking Obama's Iran agreement as a giveaway. Yet after all the expense, risk, and loss, he claims victory except we've paid a far higher price to get there.

Maybe history needs a new phrase: a "Trumpic Victory" where the costs are enormous, the claims are grand, and Americans are left wondering what exactly was won.

Today we honor the Stars and Stripes and the values it represents: freedom, democracy, service, and opportunity for all.

Happy Flag Day, and thank you to everyone who works to keep the American promise alive.

Smucker Votes Against Labor. Again!

It’s obvious by his recent vote against the “Faster Labor Contracts Act” (HR 5408) that Congressman Smucker is no friend of labor. The right to organize is a fundamental one that too many employers have undermined by their delay tactics in recognizing and working with labor groups. If Smucker won’t stand up for labor unions, it’s time the people of the 11th district elected someone who will.
