One Simple Day with Sadie

These are My Favorite Words (and what are yours?):

May the Lord bless you and keep you;
May the Lord smile on you and be gracious to you;
May the Lord show you His favor and give you His peace.

Wishing everyone:
the light of Spring;
the bird song of Summer;
nights of glowy stars;
days filled with scents of spicy florals.

I’m off for the season:
playing in the fields;
frolicking with cows;
and goats and sheep;
and Fritz and F***y
(the frogs making a showing on the stone formation by the pond).

My sign is now turned: Closed and gone farming ... and out of Winter's gate, running free in the country air with the horses.

Words

I fall into the arms of my Amish neighbor’s words. I sink into words as a writer, take them in, savor each one, whether spoken or written. Words are confetti. Some hurt (but make me ponder). Some invigorate (and get me to dream). Some are mundane (and it is here that I find value in simplicity). My neighbor’s words … they cradle me, sing me a lullaby.

Her words are soft, humble, kindly spoken. Gentle. And, so is she. I know. Her quiet, calm words mesmerize me into a place that is good.

“I think daily gratitude pulls us out of mental difficulties. This is what I think, anyway. Some situations can’t be helped with gratitude alone, but, others … I don’t know. Do you think?” she asks with a genuine sincerity.

I do. And, I know, coming from my own place of challenge. Each day brings many things to be thankful for.

“Now, what do I owe you,” she always asks after each drive to a place she really needs to go to. And my own words are always the same: “A hug.” (And she provides.)

“I’d like to give you something,” the script continues.

“You already have,” it ends.
