Strawberry Disease Identification for Commercial Growers

Join Penn State Extension for a hands-on workshop designed to help commercial growers accurately identify strawberry diseases in the field. Using real plant samples, participants will learn to recognize key diagnostic features and distinguish among common issues affecting crop health and yield.

Each attendee will receive a hand lens and a disease photo guide to support continued learning beyond the session. Build confidence in your diagnostic skills while exploring free tools and resources available to support effective disease identification and management.

Master Gardener Coordinator - Lancaster County
Part-Time (24 hours per week)

This individual will coordinate the Master Gardener Program in Lancaster County and lead local Master Gardener volunteers to provide education on sustainable horticulture practices to the residents of the county.

Preference will be given to candidates who have experience managing volunteers, horticulture background, environmental science, related education or experience in adult or non-formal education.

Open House: An Evening in the Garden

Discover what is growing during An Evening in the Garden Open House, featuring the vibrant displays and research of the Penn State Flower Trials. Visitors can explore outstanding annuals, new plant introductions, and cutting-edge trial evaluations that help shape recommendations for home gardeners and the green industry.

Guided tours will also highlight the Bees, Bugs, and Blooms Project, showcasing pollinator-friendly plantings and beneficial insect habitats, along with the latest patio vegetable varieties.

Whether you are a home gardener, industry professional, or simply curious, this event offers an engaging look at the research and innovation influencing Pennsylvania's gardens and landscapes.

This event is part of a series of open houses held at the Penn State Southeast Agricultural Research and Extension Center. Each open house offers visitors an opportunity to explore demonstration gardens and observe seasonal highlights.

During the open house, you can also explore activities like Happy Birthday America: Crops from 250 Years Ago, family-friendly pollinator experiences, and the art of building a container garden.
