Allegro Orchestra Lancaster
So glad to catch the applause after the final beat of Sousa. This concert felt really special in so many ways, and we’re so happy and grateful we got to share the experience with so many.
Our penultimate composer spotlight features a true household name when it comes to American composers and conductors: Leonard Bernstein. Heard here is a moment in his Overture to Candide.
Leonard Bernstein (1918-1990) was a conductor, composer, pianist, music educator, author, and humanitarian. Considered to be one of the most important conductors of his time, he was the first American-born conductor to receive international acclaim. In addition to his monumental influence in American music, Bernstein was an outspoken supporter of civil rights in many arenas of American life and engaged in international initiatives for human rights and world peace.
